Rose ShortÂ’s Dancing Rainbows are studies in light, shapes and colors using wide open long lenses at close range. Her fiery pictures are like rainbows distilled to a single drop.
The Artist

Born and bred in Guernsey, Rose Short has lived all her life on this small island in the English Channel where British and French cultures clash and mingle to create a unique artistic environment.

There she raised a family and ran a business with her husband. One evening 30 years ago, a Nikon presentation changed her outlook on life and turned the husband-and-wife team into avid photographers.

Rose became deeply involved with local photographic clubs, both on the admin side and as a nature photographer, and her pictures have won numerous awards.
The Pictures

In her close-up nature studies, Rose explores Guernsey's rich flora and fauna. Her location macro work has led to many surprising encounters and she is never happier than when given the opportunity to open the eyes of a casual passer-by to the small world unfolding before her lens.

Her macro work developed into experiments with tiny water droplets, long lenses and large apertures, using the camera like an artist's brush and sunlight as her palette.

The results are her amazing Dancing Rainbows. These images are not computer created but "straight" photographs, harnessing the beauty of natural light refraction.
