The Artist
Born in central London in 1942, Valerie Bulmer became interested in visual images and photography from an early age. Photography has been a lifelong hobby which has allowed for personal expression unrestricted by commercial restraints.
In the late 1960s she began taking black & white pictures, developing and printing in a home made darkroom. This continued as a hobby until the late 1990s when she became a convert to digital photography using Photoshop software.
Scotland
In 1976, Val moved to Scotland where during the next 27 years she lived in Edinburgh, Perth, Oban, Inverness, Highlands and currently in a small picturesque fishing village Anstruther in the East Neuk of Fife near to St Andrews - home of golf and St Andrews University.
The majority of her photographs have been taken on cycle trips and day to day walking in cities and country and coastal areas. In cities, street events and architecture have provided a contrast to the vast and beautiful landscape of Scotland.

From Monochrome to Color
Having been a monochrome enthusiast, Val found that Adobe Photoshop software opened up a new and exciting way to create colored images from scanned black and white negatives as well as allowing her to continue to create stunning split toned and sepia images.
Another technique she employs is hand tinting conventional black and white prints with transparent oil paint. Some are then scanned into Photoshop to create yet another fine art image.
A Digital Future
A recent convert to digital photography, Val is planning to invest further in digital equipment to expand the scope of her photographic work. She exhibits on pho2art.com to share her interest in visual images with the world around her.
